Imagine walking into one of the most iconic arenas in Kentucky and finding out you’re about to experience a full Tyler Childers concert with just 19 other fans. That’s exactly what happened on September 17, when Childers turned a secret rehearsal into a once-in-a-lifetime event—complete with cash gifts.
How Fans Got the Golden Ticket
The exclusive show was part of a fundraiser through Childers’ fan club, the Hickman Holler Hunting Club, benefiting Shriner’s Hospital. Fans who joined ahead of the release of his new album Snipe Hunter already enjoyed perks like intimate shows at Nashville’s Turkey and the Wolf Ice House and Kentucky’s Dinosaur World. But this surprise topped them all.
Ten donors were randomly chosen and allowed to bring a guest. They were told only to meet at a secret location—later revealed as Lexington’s Rupp Arena, where Childers has delivered legendary performances.
A Full Concert for Just 20 People
Childers had rented out Rupp Arena to rehearse his new stage setup for the upcoming tour. With his band The Food Stamps at his side, he played a complete setlist, stage banter and all, exactly as fans would see it on tour. The only difference? Just 20 fans sat in the lower bowl, free to pick any seat.
Phones were left in the green room, making the experience even more immersive.
$1,000 Surprise for Each Fan
As if a private arena show weren’t enough, Childers stunned the original 10 donors—and two Shriner’s representatives—by handing each of them $1,000 in cash. The gesture tied into the bold lyrics of his new track “Eatin’ Big Time” and left fans speechless.
Scott Lowery of Lexington, who attended with his 13-year-old daughter, described the moment:
“Tyler handed me $1,000, and I didn’t even know what was happening. It felt otherworldly. My daughter and I just sat across from the stage and watched him play a full show for 20 people. It was like a dream.”
A True Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
For fans like Lowery, who delayed a trip and pulled his daughter from school to attend, the surreal nature of the day will never be forgotten.
“Halfway through, I thought, ‘This has to be a dream.’ Tyler Childers, in Rupp Arena, for 20 fans, with $1,000 in my pocket—it was beyond cool.”
Childers’ generosity and unique connection with his audience highlight why he’s not just a star, but a hometown hero who continues to give back in unforgettable ways.
