DARK AND DARKER MOBILE has opened a limited test in the Korean market for Android users.
Despite possessing a relatively interesting gameplay and impressive world-building, what made DARK AND DARKER more widely known was the lawsuit against Nexon in 2023. At that time, the game company Korean video game Nexon has alleged that Dark and Darker has similarities to the ongoing development of a game internally titled P3. Nexon alleges that P3 assets were leaked to an external server by Mr. Choi – the project team leader for P3. This person then asked his team members to leave Nexon and work on a game similar to P3 as well as join the company Ironmace – founded by a former member of the P3 project team.
The incident was so tense that at one point the police raided Ironmace’s office to find evidence and Steam also removed the game from its platform. Not stopping there, Nexon even sued Ironmance in the US with allegations related to copyright infringement. However, US courts later rejected the allegations and the game continued to be developed. At that time, Krafton – the company that developed PUBG knew how to seize the opportunity when reaching agreements to bring DARK AND DARKER to the mobile platform. The game was later introduced at the Korean exhibition G-STAR 2023 and attracted a lot of attention from players around the world.
However, in contrast to using a first-person perspective like the computer version, the mobile version uses a third-person perspective. Although this will somewhat negate the sensational and dramatic situations, in return it will be more suitable for the player’s perspective, especially when the game progresses quickly. DARK AND DARKER MOBILE combines elements from role-playing systems such as Dungeons & Dragons and roguelikes to multiplayer video games such as DayZ and battle royale elements. Players can choose from eight character classes including warrior, brave, thief, ranger, wizard, cleric, bard, and warrior; Each character class will have its own unique fighting style and skills. The game features PvPvE gameplay (player versus player versus environment). In which players engage in combat against monsters to obtain valuable items, while remaining vigilant against potential threats from other players. The playable area gradually shrinks as the match progresses, forcing players to focus on their encounters with each other.
Surviving a match allows players to collect loot for future matches. If the player is killed, you will lose all property and equipment. If the player successfully clears the dungeon and survives, you can also store the obtained loot in the designated storage area for future use or for sale. The game allows players to exchange items with each other for in-game currency or other valuable items.
